The Ann Arbor News profiles the Farmer’s Market in Kerrytown, discussing its new manager and scheduled renovations. While this year I live on the west side of the Diag, with close proximity to Kerrytown (yay Zingerman’s), it’s a shame that most people don’t. So to increase the impact of the Farmer’s Market on U students, I’ve always wondered why monthly/periodical events were not held where the Farmer’s Market was brought to say, the Diag. Many people unaware of life outside of campus would be exposed to a great part of Ann Arbor. Not only would vendors be exposed to a new demographic, but students would benefit as well. Those without cars would have a source of fresh goods, concepts such as organic/local/sustainable production could be introduced, and the need for most people to walk to the Diag versus drive to Kerrytown could reduce one’s carbon footprint, at least for a day. Hopefully this idea gets discussed in the future. Or if it already has, what are the drawbacks?
