Where businesses in downtown Ann Arbor have previously been in fierce competition for scarce liquor licenses, Ann Arbor has now received 807 new liquor licenses as part of its state-sanctioned “development district.” Unfortunately we’re not going to see a mass influx of bars like Mitch’s; only businesses in the downtown area can apply for the licenses. As such, the bars likely to pop up are probably going to be more yuppie/girlie places like Vinology, Rush Street, Melange, et. al. Great.
